| THE
ROAD AHEADAs we look ahead we know
many challenges and opportunities face us, not the least of which will be
those created by the changing roles of health care and government. To achieve
success we must work as one voice for the improvement of the health of all
Kentuckians following the principals and values set forth in our Vision.
As we move ahead we will
look back on a century nearly completed to learn from our successes and failures.
We expect and believe public health will continue to provide achievements
for which it has developed a shining reputation. Let us be mindful that of
the thirty-five years of life expectancy added this century, a great majority
is attributed to public health successes in areas of immunization, better
nutrition, and improved sanitation. Let us also not forget and learn from
our failures. Failure of the advocacy for public health did not bring the
needed resources to solve many problems for which we have adequate knowledge.
By holding firm to our
commitment to our Vision and Mission we will continue to accomplish historically
what public health public health has always been able to accomplish and at
the same time to succeed at what has been previously impossible.
"Every great undertaking
looks impossible before it is started." -Thomas Carlisle
